You may be at increased risk for heart attack, stroke and diabetes. This combination of diseases is rapidly catching up to cigarettes as the leading cause of PREVENTABLE death and disability in the United States.
Risk Factors Include:
High blood pressure. Resting blood pressure greater then 140/90 is high blood pressure. Resting blood pressure greater then 135/85 is a concern and should be evaluated.
High cholesterol, sedentary lifestyle and a family history of heart disease.
Age greater then 65 for women and 55 for men.
Diabetes, kidney disease or tobacco use.
Obesity (body mass index greater then 30)
If you have any of these risk factors you should be seen by your medical care provider at least annually. You need to be evaluated for METABOLIC SYNDROME.
Having any three of the following five risk factors means a highly increased risk and is referred to as Metabolic Syndrome:
Waist size of 40 inches or larger in men or 35" in women.
Blood Pressure greater then 135/85.
Glucose intolerance (a fasting blood sugar of 110 or greater.)
Blood triglycerides greater then 150.
Blood high density lipoproteins of less then 50 for women or 40 for men.
At House Calls of Eagle River we can evaluate you for metabolic syndrome and provide treatment, if necessary, in the privacy of your home.
